K2 tags are not what you're looking for? Want more?
Finally!!!! Use tag system! Now in your Joomla! Core!
A BIG thank you to Elin Waring and all developers' team of the Joomla community for this great feature!
This great tag system that came with Joomla! 3.1.0 has all the following features:
Nested tags structure.
Integrated in all the core content (using the first Unified Content Model approach seen in the core).
Selectable tag field mode (AJAX or nested).
On the fly tag creation.
Easy integration in any extension.
What are tags?
Wikipedia states: "In information systems, a tag is a non-hierarchical keyword or term assigned to a piece of information (such as an Internet bookmark, digital image, or computer file). This kind of metadata helps describe an item and allows it to be found again by browsing or searching".
Some people say that Tags are similar to categories. Well they are in some sense, but they are generally used to describe your post in more detail. For instance, I may assign my blog about food to 'Deserts' or 'Recipes' categories, however, the tags will be more specific, such as, brownies, chocolate, hazelnut.
Joomla 3.1 introduces the most amazing feature ever - tags!
First of all, where is tag feature located? It's under Components in your Joomla administration!
In Tags Component, by just clicking on the NEW icon located top-left (it's similiar to creating new K2 items in K2 component), create new tag. You can add as many new tags, as you wish!
Fill in the relevant information, set Publishing and Metadata Settings per your Joomla! website needs and simply save!
The most valuable feature for me in the tag component is that they can be nested! So, a single Tag can have a single parent tag and multiple child tags. This means Joomla users can have their tags organized and related!
An image, as well as a teaser image can also have tags! One of the best features about the Tags component is that it allows other extensions to use the tags. The core components will also have tagging enabled if the Tags feature gets added to the core.
Guess what? This lovely component allows other extensions to connect to its API and use the tags. Besides the main component, the Tags feature has also the following two extensions:
A Similar Tags module
A Smart Search plugin for Tags
