This is user documentation of Joomla! component CD Downloads. Document describes module requirements and installation and how to use it. 

Overview 

CD Downloads for Joomla is a simple download manage component. By using this extension you can easily manage the downloads of your documents such as image, pdf, zip and other few more supported extensions. You can also have multiple versions of a product at the same time.

Requirements & Installation 

1. Requirements

  • PHP 5.3+
  • MySQL 5+
  • Joomla 3+ 

2. Installation

  • Download install-able kit from Product Page.
  • Go to your website's admin panel => Extensions => Extension Manager.
  • Upload the downloaded kit and click on install.

3. Upgrade

Just install the updated version as you have installed it earlier. No un-installation of previous kit is required to install the upgraded version.

How to configure CD Downloads? 

# Create Category

Under this section you can create multiple categories in which you can list different products. This categorization helps to display all the products belonging to same category under same roof. Below are the parameters that you need to fill up while creating category :

Create Category

  • Title : Title of the category
  • Alias : Alias of the category
  • Image : Image representing the category
  • Description : Details of the category
  • Metadata title : Primary descriptor of the category content, it is used for SEO purpose
  • Metadata description : Short summary of the content of current category page
  • Keywords : Comma separated list of search terms
  • Published : Set the category publish state.

 

# Create Product

This section is where you need to mention the product details which you want to make available for your customers. Below are the parameters that you need to fill up for product creation :

Product parameters

  • Title : Title of the product
  • Alias : Alias to be used for the product
  • Category : Category this product belongs to
  • Published : Published state of the product
  • Image : Image representing the product
  • Description : Details of the product

  • Demo URL : URL where customer can see the demo of the product (if applicable)
  • Support URL : Product support url, where customer can reach for support inquiries
  • Documentation URL : URL that customer can refer for product documentation
  • Changelog URL : URL where product related change logs can be seen
  • Metadata title : Primary descriptor of the product content, it is used for SEO purpose
  • Metadata description : Short summary of the content of current product page
  • Keywords : Comma separated list of search terms

# Create Release

Under release section, you can configure the file(s) that needs to be served to customer for a product. Each file is binded with a product and must be marked with some versioning info. This versioning information is what user can see on the front-end. Below parameters needs to be filled up for configuring release/file:

Add release file

  • Product : mention the product this file belongs to
  • Version : mention the version of the file, this version information will be visible to user on front-end so that user can decide which version to download
  • Published : Published state of the release file
  • File : Select the file that will be served to customers.

# Create Menus

You can create menus for categories and products, which will display the content in front-end.
