Side (or controlling) Module:
Side module showing configurable buttons/links for article titles that dynamically update as new articles come online. Should interact with standard content or K2 or Zoo. Possible filtered by categories etc. Configure how many links to show, how much text to render before cutoff etc.
Possibly links or styled buttons based on template with bespoke styling possible.
Second Module/Component
Main content area showing articles selected through above side module, articles loaded through Ajax.
